The 1914 Star awarded to Private, later Acting Serjeant, Benjamin Gregory, 1st Battalion the Rifle Brigade who was Killed in Action at Le Touquet on the 8th of November 1914 comprising, 1914 Star, (1043 Pte B. Gregory. 1/Rif. Brig.), very fine (1)
The War Diary for this period for the 1st Battalion Rifle Brigade is just notes as originals lost in Action. Ray Westlake, British Battalions in France & Belgium 1914 states:
November 8th, 1914
Enemy attempted to sap below wire defences. Captain Bridgeman records that heavy losses were inflicted upon them, about 100 dead noted.
Benjamin Gregory landed in France on the 24th of August 1914 he enlisted in Startford, Essex, a native of West Thurrock, Essex, he was Killed in Action on the 8th of November 1914. He was the son of Benjamin and Alice Gregory of 19, Church Roda, Tilbury, Essex, he is buried in Plot E, Grave 6 of the Le Touret Railway Crossing Cemetery, he was 26 years old.
