The Central Africa Medal, awarded to Private Jambo, “C” Company British Central Africa Rifles comprising Central Africa Medal, 1891-98, one clasp, Central Africa 1894-98, straight bar suspension, (66 Pte Jambo. B.C.A. Rifles), very fine (1)
Private Jambo’s medal and clasp, entitlement to which is confirmed on the Medal Roll, was awarded for his participation in an expedition against Paramount Chief Mpezeni of the Ngoni tribe, January to February 1898 which defeated the Chief and his son around Fort Jameson area in North-Eastern Rhodesia. The Ngoni Tribe had attempted to resist colonial occupation in the areas they populated but their warriors, armed just with spears, proved totally ineffective against troops with rifles and guns.
Sold with Copy Medal Roll, Pte Jambo is also entitled to The Africa General Service Medal, Clasp B.C.A. 1899-1900.
