Description
The North West Canada Medal 1885 awarded to Soldat Aime Laviolette 65th Battalion Mount Royal Rifles known as “Les Fusiliers Mont-Royal” earning the rare clasp Saskatchewan as a Member of Major Genera; Stange’s Alberta Field Force being engaged against the Cree at Frenchman’s Butte. Comprising North West Canada Meda, correct engraved naming, once clasp Saskatchewan (a tailor’s copy) (S’Dt. A. Laviolette. 65. Bat.), very fine (1)
The rare Saskatchewan Bar confirmed on Roll but a very well made tailor’s copy on medal. An annotation on the medal roll states the clasp was returned to headquarters “address unknown”, the medals were sent out first with the clasps to follow separately, he does not appear on the 1891 Canadian Census so he may have left the country after the war.
Aime Laviolette was born during 1857 in St Jean-Baptiste, Hochelaga, Quebec.
