The Afghanistan, Kabul to Kandahar Star Pair awarded to Private George Maidlow, 1st Battalion72nd Highlanders (Seaforth Highlanders) who Died of Disease on the 19th of January 1880 comprising, Afghanistan Medal, 1878-80, four clasps, Peiwar Kotal, Charasia, Kabul, Kandahar, (1639, Pte. G. Maidlow, 72nd Highrs.), Kabul to Kandahar Star 1880, (1639 Private G. Maidlow 72nd Highlanders), very fine (2)
Sold with an original letter from the War Office Library dated 21st of April 1947 addressed to D.J. Maidlow, 71, Woodland Street, Balgowlah, Sydney, Australia,
Sir,
With reference to your letter of the 13th of December 1946, I am directed to inform you that according to the records of the Department, No. 1639, Private George Maidlow, Seaforth Highlanders, died of disease during the Afghan war on 19.1.80. The nature of the disease is not recorded.
I am to say that the above named was awarded the Afghan Bronze Star with clasps “Peiwar”, “Charasia”, “Kabul”, and “Kandahar”, 1878-80.
