Fragments of Fabric Taken from Zeppelin L15 when it was brought down by Royal Artillery Gun Crews on the 1st of April 1916 eventually sinking in the Thames Estuary, the contemporary envelope stating (Parts of the German Zeppelin, L15, captured in the Thames Estuary April 1, 1916. Sent me By Lieutenant Mc Murchie H.M.S. Satellite. He was Manager of the West Highland Lobster Coy at one time) The two Pices of Fabric Paperclipped together with Lt J.W. McMurchie’s calling card. The incident of the Destruction of Zeppelin L15 was commemorated by the issue of the Lord Mayor of London’s Medal for the Destruction of Zeppelin L15, 353 Gold Medals were awarded to the Anti-Zeppelin Gun Crews of the Royal Artillery based along the Thames at Purfleet, Abbey Wood, Dartford, Erith, North Woolwich Plumstead and the Royal Arsenal Woolwich.
