Description
The 1914 Star awarded to Private Fred Wilson, 1st Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment who was wounded by a Gun Shot Wound to Right Thigh and Both Hands resulting the amputation of his fingers comprising 1914 Star, entitled to Aug-Nov Clasp, (8655 Pte F. Wilson. 1/W. York: R.), very fine. The 1914 Star awarded to Private Hubert Wilkins, 1st Battalion Northamptonshire Regiment comprising, 1914 Star, entitled to Aug-Nov Clasp, (3-10635 Pte. H. Wilkins. North’N R.), very fine. The 1914 Star awarded to Private William T. Field 4th Battalion Royal Fusiliers comprising 1914 Star, entitled to Aug-Nov Clasp, (S-1033 Pte W.T. Field. 4/R. Fus.) very fine (3)
Fred Wilson landed in France with the 1st Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment on the 8th of September 1914, the Battalion Moved into Trenches along the Chemin des Dames on the 20th War Diary notes “French attacked about 5am, “D” Company moved forward to protect the Battalions flank, French later returned and mistaking “D” Company for the enemy opened fire causing several casualties. Enemy attacked at 8pm. War Diary records that a man came back from the front line and reported that the forward Companies had been captured. Enemy came forward under a white flag. When the Sherwood Foresters went out to meet them, they were surrounded and fired upon. Battalion relived moved back to Troyon on the 23rd of September.
Casualties for these three days were; 8 Officers Killed, 2 Officers Wounded including Battalion Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel F. W. Towsey, 8 officers missing, 71 Other Ranks Killed, 110 wounded, 436 Missing!!
Fred was transferred to the 25th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers and was wounded in action by a Gun Shot Wound to Thigh and both hands resulting in the amputation of his fingers. He was Discharged from the Army on the 22nd of April 1920.

Hubert Wilkins landed in France on the 12th of November 1914 as one of a draft of reinforcements as it was noted that the Battalion was now only 350 men and 5 officers.

William Field landed in France on the 26th of October 1914 as a reinforcement for the 4th Battalion who by October were made up of only 8 Officers and 350 Other ranks.
