Description
The 1914 Star awarded to Private Jack Pollard, 1st and 2nd Battalions the Buffs (East Kent Regiment) who Died of Wounds in a German Field Hospital on the 17th of May 1915 comprising 1914 Star, entitled to Aug – Nov Clasp, (L-9790 Pte J. Pollard. 1/E. Kent R.), very fine (1)
Jack Pollard enlisted into the Buffs on the 7th of May 1912 he landed in France with the 1st Battalion on the 7th of September 1914 and was wounded in Action on the 20th of October 1914 at Bois Grenier in “severe hand-to-hand fighting” as stated in War Diary. He was in hospital until his return to France on the 10th of March 1915 transferring to the 2nd Battalion. He was posted Missing on the 3rd of May 1915 he was wounded guns Shot Wounds to both Thighs, the left thigh broken the right shot through. He Died at the German Feld Lazaret no 8 on the 17th of May 1915 and was buried in Ouckene Churchyard, Roeselare behind Passchendaele Ridge, his body was exhumed on the 22nd of August 1975 and was reinterred at Cement House Cemetery, Plot 7A, Row D Grave 1.
