The 1914 Star awarded to Private Joseph Simpson, 2nd and 6th (Service) Battalion King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry who was Killed in Action on the 6th of August 1915 in Sanctuary Wood comprising 1914 Star, entitled to Aug-Nov Clasp, (3-1650 Pte J. Simpson. Yorks: L.I.), very fine (1)
Private Simpson landed in France on the 1st Of October 1914 with the 2nd Battalion K.O.Y.L.I. and transferred to the 6th (Service) Battalion with whom he was Killed in Action during a Counterattack in Sanctuary Wood. His body was not located after the War, and he is commemorated on Panel 47 of the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial to the Missing
