The 1914 Star Trio awarded to Serjeant Henry Jeffrey, 2nd Battalion Border Regiment who was Killed in the Battalion attack on the village of Mametz on the 1st of July 1916 comprising, 1914 Star, (7910 L. Cpl H. Jeffrey. 2/Bord: R.), 1914-1920 British War and Victor Medals, (7910 Sjt. H. Jeffrey. Bord. R.), Memorial Plaque (Henry Jeffrey), very fine (4)
20th Brigade, 7th Division 2nd Battalion Border Regiment.
Moved forward to Morlancourt for attack on Mametz during night of the 30th of June. Advanced in 4 lines at 7.27am 1st of July – strong machine gun fire from both the village and Fricourt further to the left. All objectives – Danube Trench, Apple Alley, Shrine Alley, Hidden Lane taken by evening and gains consolidated. Casualties 343.

Henry Jeffrey was born and lived in Liverpool he enlisted for the Border Regiment at Bootle in Lancashire, he landed in France with the 2nd Battalion on the 5th of October 1914. He was Killed in Action on the 1st of July 1916 his body was not located after the War, and his name is commemorated on Pier 6 of the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme.
