Description
A Re-Named, Self Awarded, Distinguished Conduct Medal, engraved to Lance Corporal G.H. Young of the Staffordshire Regiment – Ypres 1915, comprising Distinguished Conduct Medal, GVR, (L/Cpl. G.H. Young. Staffs. Regt. Ypres 1915), renamed, lightly toned very fine (1)
I checked the MICs of every Young in either North or South Staffs Regt – and this man is the only Young
1424 Lance Corporal George Henry Young 1/6th North Staffordshire Regiment. Wounded Gun Shot Wound Left Leg and Deafened in 1918 There is No sign of DCM searching on either service numbers.
Perhaps as he was hurt late on, GSW leg, he thought he'd earned one. Also deafened. He is entitled to a 1914-15 Trio landing in France on the 5th March 1915, so maybe his Ypres 1915 on the medal means he thinks he earned one there. The 1/6th North Staffs, and that whole Bn lands 4th-5th March. In Ray Westlake's Jan-Jun 1915 book, they are in the trenches around Ypres that June.
