1914-1920 British War and Victory Medals (J.68819 E. Bearns Ordinary Seaman RN), lightly toned very fine (2)
Gunner John Bearns was entitled to the British War Medal
Ordinary Seaman Edard Bearns was born on the 24th June 1898 in Chichester and on joining the Royal Navy on the 21st March 1917 stated that he was a Painter. He was Discharged to Shore on Demobilisation on the 4th of February 1919.
Sold with a Silver War Badge pinned to Gunner Bearns Victory Medal Ribbon, this is Badge No (306274) which was awarded to a Sergeant Darnis Rhoades of the Royal Defence Corps and a Tailwaggers Club Badge named to (Bearns). The Tailwaggers Club was founded in 1928 by Captain Horace Hobbs. Dogs that became members received a special collar medallion engraved with the Club’s logo and the motto ‘I help my pals’.
In just over a year, the Club flourished and more than 200,000 dogs had enrolled, enabling £20,000 to be donated to help the work of the Royal Veterinary College. The money they raised supported pioneering individuals who led the development of small animal medicine and their legacy can still be felt today.
