Edward the Martyr (975‑78), Penny, Sole type, Lincoln mint, moneyer Levig, legend reads EΛDVVΛRD REX VNR, diademed bust left in tunic within inner linear circle, outer toothed borders both sides. Rev, small cross pattée, moneyer and mint inscription surrounds, LEVIG M¯O LINDCOL, 1.34g (S.1142; N.763; Mossop plate 1, 33; cf SCBI 27 [Lincolnshire], 12-14; SCBI 30 [American], 399). Light grey cabinet tone with a pronounced mint bloom permeating the legends, portrait filled with expression and clarity, clean divisions visible in the drapery. Rev, lustrous surfaces, legends legible with a little die weakness in parts. About extremely fine on a round flan, Previously recorded within the Spink numismatic circular as “choice, EF.” Very rare.
