POSTAL HISTORY: 1855 entire letter to Genoa, mounted on loose album leaf, endorsed 'via Plymouth' at top and with framed 'Colonies/ &c Art13.' h/s in red indicating the appropriate way-bill section for charging purposes, charged '1/-' and '17' and with French 'angl/ 28 aout/ 55/ amb. calais l' double-ring d/s, backstamped by Plymouth Packet letter, London SW transit markings and Genova rectangular red arrival mark. Fine and rare, sent during the first Anglo-French Postal Convention.
