1881 1d Lilac (Die II, 16 Dots). Very fine unused o.g. example showing "One Penny" underprint on gummed side believed to be used as a trial for the "PEARS' SOAP" advertisements, showing the usual central pinhole caused when the underprint was positioned for printing. A magnificent example of this rare printing variety and the first example we have handled in over a decade.. Ex. "Verus". SG172var. Spec. K8n.
