Tobacco Duty: 1879 (7 DEC) remarkable series of FOUR tri-lingual hand-painted essays executed in brown watercolour on stout card, denominated 10p, 15p, 20p and ‘75% AD VALOREM’ each with a different frame design, and with simulated perforations in pencil, offered complete with series of four “12-8-79” cancellation essays executed on ‘tracing linen’ to be placed 'coincidently over the stamps' to show how the stamps would look when used. &nbsp;A remarkable and spectacular proposal for a series of large-format stamps which, as far as we are able to ascertain, were never issued. A splendid lot.&nbsp;
