Lot 678A
Straits Settlements 1906-07 4c on 18c "FOUR CENTS and bar” DOUBLE, SG 146,b,d

Auction: 20 & 21 July 2026 10.30 BST
Description
1906-07 4c on 18c black and pale brown, upper right corner block of 12 (2x6) with “248” sheet number, both stamps in row 5 showing ERROR “FOUR CENTS and bar” DOUBLE, widely spaced on R5/10, which also exceptionally shows the “Line through B” variety, mint, large part o.g. (dulled by backing adhesion as usual). The error occurred only on row 5 of a single sheet, as a result of the second impression of the 10x5 “FOUR CENTS” setting (intended for rows 6-10 of the sheet) being placed one row too high. A remarkable positional showpiece containing two of the ten printed (one of which is in the Royal Collection), and UNIQUE with the R5/10 combination of double surcharge and “Line through B”. SG 146,b,d, £34,000++.
