1840 2d blue Mulready envelope, Stereo A199, used from London to Hastings and cancelled by superb Number ‘12’ in Cross, with despatch (18 SP 1843) and arrival (SE 19) backstamps. Minor traces of toning and the wax seal excised from the reverse, still a neat and extremely rare usage. Stated to be one of just two examples of the Number ‘12’ in Cross cancel on a 2d Mulready envelope. Ex ‘Besancon’ (Corinphila Sep 2020, lot 3006). SG ME4wl, cat £9,000.
