1884 (Ju 2) "SIERRA 5s. LEONE" surcharge on 1s green, with horizontal red brush stroke from the remainder stock, horizontal strip of six with margins at both ends, the second stamp showing "sloping shaft to 5" variety (found in 15 of the 60 positions in the setting), fresh large part o.g. (three stamps unmounted). Until withdrawn on 1 March 1885 this surcharge was valid for both fiscal and postal purposes, although no genuinely postal cover or piece has yet been found.
