Description
Postmarks. A highly specialised collection covering almost all of the known cancellations from Southern and Northern Rhodesia as found on the 1913-24 “Admiral” issue. The main portion of the collection is neatly presented in three large stockbooks and arranged alphabetically A-Z. Generally selected for clarity of strike and covering all offices from the most common, Salisbury, to the rare and seldom encountered, with much emphasis on illustrating the various types of postmarks used at each office along with errors of lettering, dropped spacer bars, ink types and colours.
As is to be expected, most of the stamps are lower values although values to 10s are noted, plus a number of better Die IIIA stamps including the 3s “mustard”, along with a selection of fine and unusual covers. A further two stockbooks contain duplicated ranges with a few better noted, plus a range of oddments.
An extraordinary collection, including almost all of the classic rarities, Skeleton types and unusual colours, and a splendid opportunity to acquire what must surely rank as one of the most significant holdings of this interesting period, and which would surely form the basis of an outstanding exhibit.
