Stamps

Stanley Gibbons Baldwins are proud to bring to the market our latest Stamps & Covers of Asia sale. Throughout this sale there are several great rarities from the Peoples Republic of China era and popular commemorative issues. With centre stage belonging to famous 1968 'The Whole Country is Red' 8f! A stamp which was withdrawn from sale as Taiwan on the map was not coloured in red as mainland China. An iconic rarity and the first example we have been able to bring to the market in many years. We are excited to see how this highly desirable stamp will perform at auction. Other individual highlights from China include... Another rare set which was withdrawn from sale is the 1953 35th Anniversary of the Russian Revolution set. This set closely matches the issued set (albeit different colours) was withdrawn due to the contention of the two extra characters which reads 'Soviet Union'. In this sale we also have an array of die proofs from the last years of Imperial China and the first communist issues. With an 1898 Chinese Imperial Post 4c die proof in black, ex Waterlow & Sons printers archive. Further complimenting the China are many lots featuring the popular and colourful commemorative sets and miniature sheets. Away from China we have further offerings for collections. Notably a fine collection of Brunei and Singapore. One item of note being an example of the rare 1c black & purple error of overprint in black on cover. One last highlight must be the superb and rare cover addressed to the UK bearing an India 8a carmine sent from Sarawak. A wonderful and very early cover from Sarawak. Even more so fascinating is that it is addressed to Rev F.C. Johnson, the brother-in-law of the first Rajah and father of the second Rajah Sir Charles Brooke. The team at SG has worked hard to assemble this sale, and we would like to thank all our vendors for the opportunity to present their stamps here. Finally, a reminder that public viewing for this sale is available at our office on the Strand, London and later at our Singapore office. With private viewing by appointment only. Happy bidding! Oscar Young, Philatelist -Please note that Buyer’s Premium is charged at the rate of 23% plus VAT (20%): this will be added to the hammer price. For example if a lot hammers to you at £100, the total amount owing will be £127.60 (£100, £23 Buyers Premium, £4.60 VAT).Lots marked with ‡ are subject to an additional 5% import duty applied on the hammer price, for UK buyers only. Please see our full terms and conditions here: https://sgbaldwins.com/terms-and-conditions
