Description
Tribal Taxes; Ondonga. Three registration cards, the first with payments from 1940-1945 with four 3ds surcharged 5/- under Ondonga in red, one damaged, and two 1½ds surcharged with a small black 5/- under the tribal name, this card ex Oryx; the second card paying the tax for 1942-1948 with a vertical strip of five 2ds and a single, with diamonds covering the postal value and surcharged with a red small 5/- under the tribal name. The 4th stamp of the strip shows the "bent top of the vertical stroke of 5/-" variety; the third Registration card originally covered the payments from 1944-1952 but two stamps have been lost from the card which now contains a horizontal pair of 3ds surcharged with a small red 5/- under the tribal name, a vertical strip of three (including a bi-lingual pair) of 1ds with diamonds covering the postal value and surcharged with a small black 5/- under the tribal name, and ½d and 3d UPU surcharged ‘Ondonga 5/-’ in red.
