Description
Chicago Mirror Volume 1 No. 1 & No. 2 (Mirror Publishing Empire, 1967-1968).
This underground magazine was published six months before Zap Comix, Chicago Mirror was a counterculture magazine. Created by Jay Lynch and Skip Williamson as a satirical magazines for hippies. These magazines feature work by Lynch, Williamsson, Gilbert Shelton and Wally Wood. The magazine folded after three issues and Lynch created Zap Comix after the second issue was published.
No. 1 features a cover by Peter Green, L. Ron Hubbard wrote an article on ‘An Introduction to Scientology’ and a back cover by Lay Lynch. No. 2, Peter Green returns to design the front cover, an hilarious advertisement for Chicago Mirror subscription on the back cover and an eight panel comic page by Jay Lynch showing the absurdity in racial segregation.
Prints: No. 1: There is a small difference between 1st and 2nd prints, the first was printed on matt paper and the second on glossy. We advise that this issue is leaning toward glossy cover and the 2nd print. No. 2 was not reprinted, this is the only print thus the 1st.
Grades: These are in great condition for being nearly 60 years old. No. 1, has some discolouration to the spine from age and having a white cover, a spot of discolouration to the edges of the pages. No. 2, from examination of other examples, the varying colour on the cover is common. Slight wear to the corners, discolouration and stains to the back cover and both with off-white to white pages.
