A Great War, Somme 1918 Casualty Group of 4 awarded to Private John William Cork, 13th Kensington Battalion, and 15th (Prince of Wales Own Civil Service Rifles) Battalion, London Regiment who Died of Wounds on the 6th of September 1918 after only five weeks in France, comprising 1914-1920 British War and Victory Medals, (496167 Pte. J.W. Cork. 13-Lond. R.), Memorial Plaque (John William Cork), London County Council Attendance Medal, one clasp 1912‑1913, (J. Cork), toned, very fine. (4).
Private John William Cork landed in France with the 13th Battalion London Regiment on the 1st of August 1918 and was transferred to the 15th Battalion on the 7th of August 1918. He Died of Wounds on the 6th of September 1918 at the 20th Casualty Clearing Station at Heilly Station. He had been wounded in the Battalion attack on Moislans Trench between the 1st and 6th of September. The Battalion suffered over this period 4 Officers Killed, 6 wounded, 1 missing, 35 Other Ranks Killed, 4 Died of Wounds, 241 Wounded, 38 Missing.

Copies of the War Diary of the 15th Battalion are included, an incredible story of the attack that cost 18‑year‑old John Cork his life. He is buried today in Plot VII, Row B, Grave 119 of Heilly Station Cemetery, Mericourt-L ’Abbe, Somme France.
