Description
A Great War “Gun Shot Wound Face” 14‑15 Trio awarded to Corporal Robert Louis Wiles, 3rd and 9th Battalion Norfolk Regiment and 144 Prisoner of War Company, Labour Corps, comprising 1914-15 Star, (14382 Pte R.L. Wiles. Norf. R.) 1914-1920 British War and Victory Medals, (14382 Cpl. R.L. Wiles Norf. R.), heavily toned, fine. (3).
Robert Louis Wiles joined the Regular Army after Militia Service in the 4th Battalion Norfolk Regiment on the 27th of October 1904, serving at the Depot and with the 2nd Battalion until the 30th of August 1908, when he was discharged, ‘service no longer required’. He re‑joined the Norfolk Regiment on the 9th of September 1914, arriving in France on the 30th of August 1915 with the 3rd Battalion. He was promoted Lance Corporal on the 6th of November 1915 and Corporal on the 6th of May 1917. He was wounded by a Gun Shot to the Face on the 14th of May1918, being admitted to 16 Field Ambulance. He was compulsorily transferred to 144 Prisoners of War Company, Labour Corps, on the 4th of August 1918, his papers state ‘for the Benefit of the Service’, and then transferred to 380 Prisoner of War Company on the 28th of December 1918. He was finally discharged to Reserve on the 18th of February 1919.
