The Crimea Medal awarded to Captain Walter Robert Corbet, 49th Foot who Died of Disease at Marseilles whilst returning Home to England on the 19th of March 1855 comprising, Crimea Medal 1854-55, one clasp Sebastopol, (March 1855 Capt W.R. Corbet, 49th Foot. Obit 19th), contemporarily engraved, lightly toned very fine (1)
A tablet at St Bartholomew’s Church, Moreton Corbett, North Shropshire, Shropshire, England states
White Marble Tablet Carved in the shape of a Scroll Mounted on to a Triangular-Headed Dark Stone Backboard. Inscription in Black Lettering Draped Flags and Badge Carved in Relief at the top Centre of the Backboard.

IN MEMORY OF/ THE BELOVED AND DEEPLY LAMENTED/ WALTER ROBERT CORBET/ CAPTAIN H.M. 49TH REGIMENT;/ YOUNGEST SON OF/ SIR ANDREW VINCENT CORBET, BART./ BORN AT ACTON REYNALD, MARCH 25TH 1832,/ HAVING SERVED WITH/ THE ALLIED ARMIES AT VARNA,/ AND FOR MORE THAN FOUR MONTHS/ AT THE SIEGE OF SEBASTOPOL,/ HAVING SERVED TOO IN THE PERILS AND GLORIES OF/ INKERMAN,/ HE WAS ON HIS WAY HOME SEIZED WITH FEVER/ AND AFTER A FEW DAYS' ILLNESS,/ DIED AT MARSEILLES, AMRCH 19TH 1855./ HIS FAITH AND RESIGNATION SHEWED THEMSELVES/ IN THESE HIS LAST WORDS:/ "L'HOMME PROPOSE _ DIEU DISPOSE," AND/ "GOD'S WILL BE DONE"
Sold with Copy Medal Roll and London Gazette entries regarding promotions, housed in a cardboard box which states “Walter’s Medals” the post mark dated 8th of August 1910.
