Francis Hoare was born in Portsea on the 17th of January 186. His Service Record shows his year of birth as 1875, but all other Records (Baptism, Census etc.) give 1876 as his birth year. He enlisted a s Stoker 2nd Class in the Royal Navy on the 8th of March 1894 and served until he was demobilised on the 28th of February 1920. During his Naval career he spent almost seven years at various times at H.M.S. Vivid, then a shore-based training centre at Devonport, housing the Stokers and Engine Room Artificers School.
Fracis Hoare was promoted Leading Stoker (2Cl) on the 24th of March 1905, and Leading Stoker (1Cl) later the same year. In July 1906 he was Promoted Stoker Petty Officer. He received the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medals for his Service during the Great War. His last service date was the 28th of February 1920. After 25 years of retirement Frederick Died aged 70 in 1945.
