The Distinguished Conduct Medal, 1914 Star Trio awarded to Bombardier, Later B.Q.M.S. John Jesse Towers 22nd Trench (Howitzer) Battery Royal Garrison Artillery who was awarded the DCM for action on the 6th of July 1915 south of Pilkem “serving his gun under a heavy shellfire, resulting in the destruction of a considerable portion of the enemy’s trenches and wire entanglements comprising Distinguished Conduct Medal, GVR, (1209 Bmbr: J.J. Towers. 22/Trench H. Bty: R.G.A.), 1914 Star with original Aug-Nov Clasp, (1209 Gnr: J.J. Towers R.G.A.), 1914-1920 British War and Victory Medals, (SR-1209 B.Q.M. Sjt. J.J. Towers. No 1209 Bombardier Towers J.J. 22 Trench Howitzer Battery R.G.A.
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the operations to the north on Ypres. On the 6th of July 1915, south of Pilkem, he displayed great coolness and bravery in serving his gun under a heavy shellfire, resulting in the destruction of a considerable portion of the enemy’s trenches and wire entanglements.
John Jesse Towers landed in France on the 5th of October 1914. Wounded Shrapnel to the Arm at Ypres in November 1914, in September 1915 at Loos he was admitted to hospital Neurasthenia, in August 1916 admitted to Hospital again with Bronchitis caused by Gas Poising. He Transferred to the Reserve in March 1919
