The 1914 Star awarded to Private John Irvine Appears, 1st Battalion Seaforth Highlanders who was wounded in 1916 in the Persian Gulf, comprising 1914 Star, (674 Pte J. Irvine. 1/Sea: Highrs.), entitled to the Aug-Nov Clasp, very fine (1)
Private Irvine landed in France with the 1st Battalion Seaforth Highlanders on the 12th of October 1914 having sailed from India, they moved to the Trenches at Richebourg St. Vaast on the 29th and the War Diary sates, heavily shelled about 4pm. Later moved to trenches along the Estaires-La Bassee Road near Pont Longy. War Diary Records, 31st October wounded were collected from the battlefield, the men having been out in No Man’s Land for several days and mostly from the 1st Royal West Kent’s and 47th Sikhs. Private Irvines name appears in the Casualty List of 4 Feb 1916, when the1st Battalion Seaforths were in the Persian Gulf.
