A 1914 Star Trio, Spring Offensive Military Medal, Casualty Group awarded to Lance Corporal Thomas Hull, 2nd Battalion Sherwood Forester, (Notts & Derby Regiment) and 6th Battalion Machine Gun Corps who was awarded the Military Medal in 1918 and who appears in the Casualty Lists of 16th January 1918 and the 3rd of July 1918 comprising, Military Medal, GVR. (72852 Pte T. Hull. 6/M.G.C.), !914 Star and Original Aug-Nov Clasp, (7236 Pte T. Hull. 2/Notts: & Derby: R.), 1914-1920 British War and Victory Medals, (7236 Pte. T. Hull. Notts. & Derby. R.), very fine, 1914 Star has been silvered (4)

Howard Williamson The Great War Medal Collectors Companion Volume 1 says: the third main gazette for the March Offensive and covers 21st March to 11th April 1918. All awards are directly for the first phase of the March Offensive. Many were for "operations west of the Somme."
In March 1918, the 6th Battalion, Machine Gun Corps was involved in heavy fighting during the German Spring Offensive, specifically the Battle of St. Quentin and the First Battle of Bapaume. The 6th Battalion suffered significant losses, including the death of 3 officers and 11 soldiers on March 21st and 22nd, with 5 officers and 194 soldiers reported missing. A large number of their guns were also lost or destroyed.
