An Unusual Mercantile Marine British War Medal, 1939-45 Defence Medal Trio, (His full entitlement) awarded to Able Seaman, John Arthur Selston. Exam Services, War Department Sea Going Seaman who served aboard the S.S. Marquis of Hartington and S.S. Lord Wolseley comprising 1914-1918 Mercantile Marine War Medal, (John A. Selston). 1914-1920 British War Medal, (John A. Selston), 1939-45 Defence Medal, unnamed as issued., staining to obverse of Mercantile Marine otherwise lightly toned very fine. (3)
A fascinating group of original paperwork confirming the award of the Mercantile Marine Medal by the Board of Trade on behalf of the War Department Fleet. With original Bestowal Documents and ribbons and packets of issue, and the award card for just the Defence Medal, the 1939 Census shows John as a Able Seaman war Department.
