Edward Dannett Asbury was born at Blackheath, South London on the 9th of June 1899, He attended between 1913-1916 Malvern School in Worcester where he attended the Officer Training Corps between 1914 and the 9th of August 1916. Declaring himself a student he enlisted into the Royal Flying Corps aged 18 on the 20th of June 1917. Gazetted 2nd Lieutenant on the 1st of December 1917 he was posted from No 31 TDS to 49 Squadron. He shot down 5 enemy aircraft (listed above). Promoted Temporary Captain on the 13th of September. His last flight was on the 24th of September when he and his Observer, 2/Lt Bernard Tuitt. Gilman took off at 2.50pm to attack Baulnoye Junction. He was shot down by Enemy Aircraft on the return journey and was last seen in combat wet of the Foret de Mormal. Both were killed. They were shot down by either Ltn Otto Loffler of Jasta 2 or Ltn Josef Mai of Jasta 5. They both have no Known Grave and are both commemorated on the Arras Flying Services Memorial. Edward was 19 Years Old when he was killed, the only son of Captain Dannett Asbury.
