Description
1942 Auschwitz Concentration Camp postcard sent to Hubert Klausa in Hohenlinde, Kattowitz, franked by 1941-42 12pf carmine-red ‘Hitler Head’ stamp, tied by Auschwitz circle date stamp for 16.5.42, written by Johann Klausa (inmate number 1124) and with “Geprüft/7/K. L. Auschwitz” three line red handstamp at left. This prisoner was released on 27 Nov 1943 after serving nearly 3½ years. The adhesive with some creasing, but the postcard is fine. A fascinating historical artifact.
Footnote
Hohenlinde was the location of a subcamp of Auschwitz (although not opened until December 1944) where prisoners were given labour assignments in the Hubertushütte steel mill.
