The Well-Documented Great War Long Service Minesweeper and First Aircraft Carrier Group of four awarded to Stoker Petty Officer William James Brooks Royal Navy Comprising, 1914-15 Star, (K.8606. W. J. Brooks. Act. L. Sto. R.N.) , 1914-1920 British War and Victory Medals (K.8606 W. J. Brooks. L. Sto. R.N.), Long Service and Good Conduct, GVR, (K 8606. W. J. Brooks. L. Sto. H.M.S. Columbine.), lightly toned, polished, edge bumps, fine (4)
William James Brooks was born on the 6th September 1891 in Kensington, London. He joined the Royal Navy on the 6h¸November 1910, stating that he was employed as a servant Footman. During the Great War, he served aboard HMS Donegal between the 6th of October 1914 and the 23rd of October 1916 Donegal was assigned to the 5th Cruiser Squadron at Sierra Leone for convoy protection duties. She was transferred to the 6th Cruiser Squadron of the Grand Fleet in January 1915 and then to the 7th Cruiser Squadron in November to escort convoys to Archangelsk. He then served aboard HMS Furious, the first aircraft carrier. He was awarded his LS&GC on the 8th of October 1925, He was Pensioned to shore on the 5th of September 1932.
