Boscobel, John Westwood an unfinished uniface incuse die trial for the reverse of his Halfpenny, obv. blank rev. an oak tree (different but very similar to adopted design) but with no legend or legend guidelines, edge, PAYABLE AT MACCLESFIELD LIVERPOOL OR CONGLETON, 30mm/12.00gm. (DH 81 bis), Extremely Fine for issue, toned. Unique !

Why is this incuse – is it a brockage of trial striking or is this part of the process of producing a finished die ? Die fields very heavily scoured - very interesting piece.
As most of the tokens in this auction came from the missing F S Cokayne Collection cabinets it is highly likely that this piece is also ex Cokayne, even though there are none of his tickets to back this up.
