Description
The Great War Memorial Scroll awarded to Private Arthur George South, 6th Battalion The Queen’s (Royal West Surrey Regiment), who had been gassed and previously wounded before he was Killed in Action on the 1st of July 1918. Comprising Memorial Scroll, (Pte. Arthur George South Royal W. Surrey Regt.), very fine. (1)
Private Arthur George South embarked for France on the 6th of April 1916. His Papers state “Wounded in Action (Gas) 3rd of May 1917” – “Wounded in Action 9th April 1918 Shrapnel Wound Face” and finally “Killed in Action 1st July 1918”
Arthur was the Son of John and Mary Ann South of Clapton Park, London, he is Buried in Plot C, Grave 19 of Harponville Communal Cemetery Extension, France, he was 22 years old.
Sold with original Buckingham Palace enclosure for the scroll. Copy Medal Index Card, Copy Service and Pension papers
