Description
The Unusual Great War Trio awarded to John James Needham. A Territorial Soldier who had joined the 5th Battalion Leicestershire Regiment in January 1914, he was mobilised on the 5th Aug 1914, He Signed the Imperial Service Order and proceeds to France with the 5th Leicesters in February 1915 for one year, In 1915 his four year TF obligation expires and he is Demobilised. It would appear that he then re-joined but now in the Artillery, serving as 283457 Gunner John James Needham with 202 (Heavy) Battery Royal Garrison Artillery.
His group comprises, 1914-15 Star, (1774 Pte. J.J. Needham. Leic. R.) 1914-1920 British War & Victory Medals, (283457 Gnr. J.J. Needham. R.G.A.). lightly toned (3)
He also appears in the 1918 Absent Voter list for South Leicester which is only a few miles west of Oakham.
This list puts him in 202 Heavy Battery RGA.
