Description
(68mm/84.72gm), made later 19th or early 20th century by Rundell, Bridge and Rundell. Laureate and armoured bust facing left, rev., ACCESSIT XXIX IAN. MDCCCXX, within three lines in an oaken wreath and engraved around the edge ‘FROM HIS MAJESTY KING GEORGE IV TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE ROYAL ACADEMY’ (cf. BHM 1010; cf. E 1123). Mounted, bruised and lightly sweated, nonetheless detail remains pleasing to central devices, good Very Fine.

Thomas Lawrence (1769-1830), President of the Royal Academy during the reign of George IV, having been elected on 30th March 1820. The original medal presented to Lawrence was struck in gold. This later gilt-electrotype copy would have been produced later into the 19th century or early 20th century.
