Footnote
William Huskison – British financier, statesman and MP for Liverpool – first ever passenger to be fatally run over by a train – by Stephenson’s Rocket whilst attending the opening of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway in 1830. Huskisson had disembarked from the VIP train and then panicked which way to go when Stephenson’s engine approached from the opposite direction. Too late, he made a leap for his own train but unfortunately the unlatched door swung open with him hanging on it, right into the path of the oncoming train!
