Footnote
I. J. Paderewski (1860‑1941) was a Polish pianist, composer, and statesman. In 1919, he was the nation’s prime minister and foreign minister during which he signed the Treaty of Versailles. Kilényi admired Paderewski and, when he was retained to design a medal symbolising the friendship between the USA and Poland, he picked his likeness for the obverse.
