Description
Ecgberht (802-839), King of Wessex, Penny, non-portrait type, moneyer Ifa, West Saxon Mint, (probably Winchester) c. 828-839. SAXON irregularly placed, legend surrounds + ECOBEORHT REX. Rev, cross pattée, legend surrounds + IFA MONETA, 1.2gm (S. 1041; N. 589; BMC xviii; Naismith W8.1). Crimped as found and waterworn, nevertheless Very Fine with all details clear, very rare.
Found in Test Valley, near Andover, Hampshire. PAS ID: SUR-E27CA9.
