Today marks an important next step for Stanley Gibbons, with the official launch of our Singapore office and following on next week with our first auctions in the region. There is plenty to look forward to, building on a strong few months across the business.
The Launch of Stanley Gibbons Singapore
Our Singapore office gives us a permanent presence in the region. Our inaugural Singapore auctions will follow the launch, with The Orchard Road Collection of Malaya Revenues on 29 October and Pokémon of Lion City on 30 October.
Having a local team in Singapore allows us to build closer relationships with collectors across the region, offering opportunities to meet in person, view material and speak directly with our specialists. We already have valued clients across Asia, but there is a great deal more we can do by being there in person. I’m looking forward to spending time with collectors during the launch and hearing what they would like to see from us.
One of our real strengths is that we combine an auction business with a substantial retail presence. For clients selling through us, that gives us more options to find the right buyer and achieve the best possible return. Some items benefit from the competition of an auction; others are better suited to a private sale through our retail team. Singapore adds another dimension, allowing us to consider both the most suitable way to sell an item and the market in which it is likely to perform.
A New Stanley Gibbons Website
Our new website is scheduled to launch in December, bringing together all our collecting categories, auctions, retail and catalogues under one unified Stanley Gibbons brand and website, while retaining the renowned numismatic expertise and heritage of Baldwin’s.
With a single customer account and a more joined-up service, it will be easier to browse, bid and buy across the business. The refreshed design is part of a wider effort to make our full range of expertise, products and services easier to find and use.
For collectors, we continue to focus on bringing together exciting auctions and interesting material across our shop and online store. Whether you are looking for one elusive item or building a collection over many years, we want to be somewhere you return to for the quality and authenticity of the material we offer and the advice you receive.
Forthcoming Auctions and Events
In London, Stampex takes place at the Business Design Centre from 28 to 31 October. It remains an important opportunity to catch up with clients, meet new collectors and have conversations face to face. Our Great Britain Auction, including the excellent Brendan Read Collection, follows on 3 November.
Alongside the website launch in December, we will host a very special coin auction, with more details to be shared in due course.
Progress in Q3 2026
There have been some particularly good results across our departments in recent months. In stamps, the Important Multiples of Great Britain sale achieved more than £320,000 from only 62 lots, while Treasures of Revenues Philately realised over £313,000. Our British, Ancient & World Coins auction brought in more than £500,000, with hundreds of bidders competing from around the world.
The Clandestine Operations Medal and Militaria Auction also achieved an impressive £260,000 including buyer’s premium. Highlights included a Small Army Gold Medal and Bar, Gold C.B., Order of St Anne and Waterloo group of five, which realised £71,300, and an outstanding Waterloo presentation Mameluke sword, which sold for £39,360.
Trading cards delivered another set of strong results, with our Pokémon Summer Celebrations auction achieving more than £561,000 followed by our Gold Stars and Grails auction which achieved over £1m in sales. Our newer vintage comics category also continued to develop, with the Northern Collection bringing in over £50,000.
It is great to see results coming through across such a broad range of collecting interests. Coins and stamps remain central to our business, while the response to trading cards and comics shows the opportunity to build new audiences and apply our expertise to more collecting categories.
Catalogues
Releasing the new Stanley Gibbons Part 1 catalogue was another highlight of Q3. We published our first catalogue in 1865, and publications remain central to the business. A huge amount of specialist knowledge and careful work goes into each edition, and the team deserves recognition for that.
Stamps of the World will follow later this year, with Queen Victoria Specialised Volume 1 Part 2 planned for spring 2027. We are also working on improved digital catalogues through SG Collect, giving collectors more choice in how they access and use our information.
The aim is to keep developing the tools collectors rely on, whether they prefer a printed catalogue beside their album or a digital resource they can use wherever they are.
Meeting Collectors Around the World
Taking the British Guiana One Cent Magenta to Prague for the Treasures of World Philately Exhibition was a particular highlight. There were queues to see it each day of the event. Being able to share such an iconic stamp and its history with a wider audience is an important part of being the custodian of an item of such significance.
We also joined the Royal Warrant Holders Association’s trade mission to Singapore, meeting local businesses and fellow Royal Warrant holders looking to establish themselves in the region. It was an incredibly useful opportunity to build relationships ahead of our own official launch.
Thank You for Your Ongoing Support
There is still plenty to achieve before the end of the year, and I am grateful to my team for their dedication and hard work. Thank you to our clients and collectors for your continued support. I am looking forward to meeting many of you in Singapore and at Stampex - see you there!
