Description

Stanley Gibbons Baldwin’s is proud to present its Stamps & Covers of Asia and the Middle East sale, reflecting the continuing strength of these markets with a diverse offering that spans untouched collections, essays, proofs, postal history, and forgeries. Highlights include the lifetime Saudi Arabia collection of the late Willie King FRPSL, featuring his renowned “Hejaz-Nejd to Saudi Arabia 1953” exhibit, as well as a unique 1932 China hand-painted essay from the North-West Scientific Expedition. Collectors will also find an excellent selection from India and the Indian States, including a white Scinde Dawk, Mutiny Mail, Rocket Mail proofs, and rare Cochin printers’ sample sheets held since partition. Other notable items include a rich Sarawak collection, with postal history and postmarks, headlined by a registered cover penned by James Brooke, the first Rajah, from Singapore to London. Together, these lots offer a wide range of material with significant historical and philatelic interest.
