Description
1939 registered envelope from GB bearing 5/- red, Westbourne Grove 21 AU 39 CDS which is faint (First Day cancel) with a clearer strike on the reverse, overpaying the 4/9d rate. On arrival, violet straight-line PASSED BY CENSOR (Fitton H1), one of five known examples of this mark, applied in the first week of WW2 censorship in the Seychelles. Victoria SP 6 arrival on reverse. The backflap stained from the envelope's glue, otherwise fine; a cover that might equally well be included in Exhibition collection of either KG VI GB or Seychelles, ex McCloy, illustrated on p57 of Hopson/McCloy
