1877(?) ½a red, the small die (19 x 17mm, central face value in oval, two rosettes in outer frame), defective but clearly identifiable example with creasing and upper left corner missing, tied by pen cross to face of rather tatty cover from Poonch to Choya Saidan Shah. On reverse, good large part strike of Poonch intaglio seal, British Indian KAHUTA transit and CHOYA SAIDAN SHAH "MAY 3" arrival cds, and boxed POSTAGE DUE mark (completed in manuscript). Despite faults, a major IFS classic rarity, being one of just two recorded covers with SG 1a. With detailed ISES cert (2010), unfortunately erroneously giving the date as "1887".
