Description
1891 (20 FE) incoming India ¼a red-brown postcard from Nowgong (Bundelkhand) to Srinagar, Kashmir, additionally franked by Jammu & Kashmir 1883-94 ¼a pale brown, with two very fine strikes of NOWGONG squared circle, one tying the J&K stamp (also tied by penstroke), and KASHMIR delivery cds (FE 28 91). No actual message, but with amusing pen and ink sketch of a cat and a boiling kettle. A highly unusual and surely unique usage, apparently an (unnecessary) attempt to prepay state postage, but resulting in a J&K stamp cancelled in Central India, where it had no validity. The odd fault. SG 142; Scott 105
