Description
1941 (Aug) pair of original typed letters on headed paper from 'The Times of India / BOMBAY' to 'The Controller of State Accounts, Barwani State', the first undated (but docketed 14/8/41), the second dated '23rd August 1941' (and docketed 28/8/41), relating to preparations for the 1941 (5th) printing. Fascinating and unique. The second letter refers to the sending of 'machine proofs' for subsequent return to Bombay
XXX Italics please - Apparently the cliches had been held in Barwani and returned to Bombay, leading the printer to suggest that the Ranjit Singh ½a and 4a blocks were no longer suitable for printing, and that the orders for the corresponding Devi Singh values should be increased instead. Clearly the State demurred, as printing of the Ranjit ½a and 4a still went ahead XXX
