1868 Jammu 1a dull carmine-red in watercolour on native paper unused, without gum as issued.  Unobtrusive diagonal crease.   Ex Staal.  SG 61 var.; Scott 11 var.  
  
This stamp is described on page 98 of Staal; 'Dull carmine-red.... a very distinctive shade". Sefi and Mortimer recorded nine examples of the ½a (eight from the Masson collection) but no 1as. Staal states that two 1as were known to him, one used and one unused; this is the latter example.
