Description
1897 5ct lilac-rose and 10ct yellow, dated 1-4-97. 5ct Die I unused without gum, and Die II mint with some o.g. but a repaired tear at right, and 10ct Die I unused without gum (creased). Some perf faults, as usual. SG T131, 133
There are two 'Dies' of both these values, distinguishable as follows. 5ct Die 1; space between 'Department' and CENTS at the top of the stamp is ¾mm (Die II 1¼mm); upper right petals of the 6th and 11th flowers in the right border ornamentation are missing (Die II intact), and the row of diamonds beneath the upper value meets the right border above the centre of a flower (Die II below the centre). 10ct Die 1; the ornament immediately below the top right corner ornament is damaged and has a blob of colour (Die II absent); the line of ornaments beneath the lower date meets the right border opposite two pearls (Die II one pearl), and there is a small space above the lower right corner ornament (absent in Die II)
