1880 4d Grey-brown Pl.17 (SG154, Wmk. Large garter & Wmk. Crown). A most unusual matched pair of double rate entires sent from London to Lambayeque, Peru from the same correspondence. The first cover bearing two (SG154, BG/BH) on garter watermark paper, one with a wing margin.. The second cover has two (SG160, GF, OL) on crown watermark paper. Both letters were routed via Southampton, on a Royal Mail Steam Packet ship to Chagres and across the Isthmus by Panama Railway to Panama City on the Pacific coast, then via a Pacific Steam Navigation Company packet to Callao and inland via Lima to Lambayeque. Spectacular pair of covers. SG154 (Ex. Gilbert Wheat) & SG160. Cat £1850+.
