1881 1d Lilac (Die II, 16 Dots). Unused o.g. example showing "One Penny" underprint on gummed side believed to be used as a trial for the "PEARS' SOAP" advertisements, showing the usual central pinhole caused when the underprint was positioned for printing and a diagonal crease. A magnificent example of this rare printing variety and only the second example we have handled in the past 25 years. SG172, Spec. K8n. 1987 RPS Cert. Cat £1,600.
